This is the easiest and fastest way to get around Delhi. The service is efficient, the trains are immaculately clean and it is a shining example of the New India. There are three lines operating now and much building work taking place to extend the network to the final seven lines that will service the whole city. Line 2 is particularly useful to get to Old Delhi. Single journey tickets range from 8 to 30. There are two kinds of tourist cards offering unlimited travel over short periods: 1-day (100) and 3-day (250), with a refundable deposit of 50. A travel card for commuters enables stored values of up to 1,000.
The Airport Express Link takes just 18mins from Connaught Place to T3. However, after a brief opening, it was closed due to safety concerns. At the time of writing it was still not operational.
The Discover Delhi by Metro brochure that can be downloaded from the website is a useful resource, highlighting which line and which stop to use for the major sights. A Metro Museum is located at Patel Chowk station on Line 2, complete with souvenir shop. I have yet to visit!
