A watercolour is casually placed on the notice board near reception with this inscription, ‘Artists are like birds, Hotel Ganges View is a nest to which we flock, a home on this earth, wherever we are from.'
This is the perfect hotel for artists, musicians, scholars, writers and travellers. Many creative people plan their visit to Varanasi around the availability of a room at this intimate hotel. Shashank, the owner, is a treasure trove of knowledge and connections, and the hotel was his family home for generations. Of the 14 rooms, the upstairs ones with access to terraces directly overlooking the Ganges are the best.
There is an active cultural programme and private concerts can be arranged. You will often find artists at work on the terrace and their work can be purchased. On my most recent visit Ramchandra was painting a wonderful Gangama which he would sell for 25,000. Check the notice board here for cultural happenings across the city. Rooms from 2,500 on the lower floor and 4,000 on upper floors
