A picturesque 14km drive from Margao brings you to this superb 1787 house that was lovingly restored by Ruben and Celia Vasco da Gama. They, with their two young children, continue to live in the house located on the banks of the Kushavati River. The two-acre garden is one of the most beautiful pleasure gardens in Goa, enhanced by terracotta figurines made by local artist Verodina, at the Keramos Pottery Studio. Ruben guides you through the house, which is an interesting blend of Hindu and Portuguese elements and there are a number of special exhibits, such as the stamp collection documenting Portuguese rule. The Belvedere at the Palacio do Deao is a memorable place to enjoy lunch or high tea.
