This mulmul (fine, soft cotton, muslin) was printed by hand with carved wooden blocks in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The process is known as hand block-printing and the skills of a block carver and those of the printers are passed down over generations within a family. The printer dips the block into a dye tray and then stamps the block onto the fabric with a ’thump thump’ of the hand at the centre of the block to ensure even printing. This process is carefully repeated across the fabric. This fabric is from a family-owned workshop that was established in 1963 established to revive this craft using both traditional and contemporary designs. The attractive geometric pattern is printed with red and light blue dyes on white mulmul. There maybe tiny variations in the printing but these are its charm and show it was hand-made. Hand-wash or dry-clean.
Two more pieces in the same design are available, see CLOTH 4521 and CLOTH 4721.
